Bandwidth FAQ

How much internet speed do I actually need?

Most households of 2–3 people need 100–200 Mbps. A single person with basic needs can get by with 25–50 Mbps. Families of 4+ with gamers, streamers, and remote workers should target 300–500 Mbps. The calculator above gives a personalized recommendation based on your actual usage.

Does more speed mean faster streaming?

Only up to a point. Netflix 4K requires 25 Mbps, and Disney+ 4K needs 25 Mbps. Beyond that, extra speed helps when multiple devices stream simultaneously or when downloading large files. A 500 Mbps plan does not make a single 4K stream look better than a 100 Mbps plan.

Is upload speed important?

Upload speed matters for video calls (Zoom, Teams), live streaming, cloud backups, and gaming. Fiber offers symmetric speeds (same upload as download), while cable typically caps upload at 10–35 Mbps. If you work from home, prioritize a plan with at least 10 Mbps upload.

Should I get more speed than the calculator recommends?

Adding a 20–30% buffer above your calculated need is smart to account for future devices, background updates, and peak usage. Internet plans are not refundable mid-month, so slightly over-provisioning is better than under-provisioning.
